Commuter Champion Awards

Lissa Myers

Congratulations, Lissa Myers, for being a Way to Go Commuter Champion!

Lissa,  the Traffic/Transportation Project Manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), has been a passionate advocate for alternative transportation options, and all the associated benefits, for more than 10 years. While at NREL, Lissa’s sole focus has been on transportation issues and developing creative options that help nearly 2,000 NREL staff and contractors get to work without increasing traffic congestion. Her accomplishments are many as she has developed and implemented a comprehensive commuter benefits program that incorporates Transportation Demand Management principles. For example, she created programs for carpools and vanpools, employing DRCOG’s GPS mapping system to show commuters they have options. She developed a van pool voucher system for those outside of RTD’s system. She has implemented the DRCOG Guaranteed Ride Home program to provide the certainty that staff need to adopt alternative transportation. Lissa has lead NREL’s efforts to connect multi-modal opportunities, such as figuring out how to best connect NREL shuttles with RTD and light rail routes.  One of the keys to Lissa’s success has been her ability to build excellent relationships with other entities, including DRCOG, RTD, GSA, and Front Range counties and cities. She works well with these groups and studies the best practices and implements solutions for NREL commuters. Lissa never stops looking for new opportunities, running NREL’s commuter surveys, collecting data and feedback, and customizing her program to meet staff needs.  She advocated for incorporating better transportation options and NREL’s pedestrian-friendly campus build out, including preferred parking for car and vanpools. Lissa also leads by example with her own telework schedule and carpooling.
